Hachi's story

Everyone calls Hachi by the mysterious dog name because no one knows where Hachi came from. Maybe Hachi escaped from a dog store or maybe he jumped out of someone's car somewhere far away. Whoever Hachi was, he had lost his way.

Hachiko is an Akita Inu dog, born in Odate City, Akita Prefecture. This dog is famous for being loyal to its owner even years after his death.

Hachiko was brought to Tokyo by his master, Hide-Saburo Ueno, a professor in the Department of Agriculture at the University of Tokyo. During his life, Hachiko would frequently go to meet him upon his return from work at the door of Shibuya Station until May 1925, when the professor did not return to the station one day due to a cerebral hemorrhage he suffered at the university that led to his death. However, Hachiko did not give up his habit of waiting for his master in front of the station. He waited at the station door day after day for his return, and he continued like this for ten consecutive years until he caught the attention of many passers-by at the station and his story spread.
